Biobased Coating Summit 2024, Valencia, June 5-6, 2024

The MARFIL Network participated through AIMPLAS in the Biobased Coating Summit 2024, held this year in Valencia on June 5 and 6. Lola Gómez, a researcher in coatings, adhesives and converting at AIMPLAS, gave a presentation on “Functional bio-based coatings derived from waste for packaging applications”, in which she talked about coatings from food waste and the MARFIL project. Specifically, the researcher addressed the new sustainable and scalable processes for the development of biopolymers from renewable sources to produce biobased coatings with improved mechanical and chemical resistance. In addition to this presentation, the MARFIL Network had an exhibition area where attendees could learn about the objectives of the project and the planned actions.

8th PLA World Congress, Munich, May 28-29, 2024

The MARFIL Network was present at the 8th PLA World Congress, which took place on May 28 and 29 in Munich. AIMPLAS participated in this event to publicize this network and had an information point about the project, as well as a presentation by the leading researcher in Mechanochemistry and Reactive Extrusion, Carolina Acosta. The presentation entitled “Facing the challenges of PLA: from waste to biopolymer applications” served to raise the opportunities of different types of biomass to obtain PLA that can be processed by injection, extrusion or 3D printing.

First face-to-face meeting
The meeting was held at the AIMPLAS facilities, and all members of the MARFIL NETWORK participated: AIMPLAS, Aitiip Centro Tecnologico, CIDAUT and GAIKER Centro Tecnológico .
The objective of this network is to promote the development of biopolymers, raw materials from alternative sources to petroleum with a lower environmental impact, more easily recyclable and/or biodegradable.
The MARFIL project is part of the Cervera 2023 call for Technological Excellence Centers of the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities , and financed with European funds from the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. The program is managed by the @CDTI_innovacion .
